• Temporary Relief for Financially Distressed Directors: Coronavirus Economic Response Package Omnibus Act 2020 (Cth) The Coronavirus Economic Response Package Omnibus Bill 2020 received Royal Assent on the 24th of March, manifesting as the Coronavirus Economic Response Package Omnibus Act 2020 (Cth) (“Omnibus Act”). The Act prescribes, amongst other legislative amendments, temporary changes of 6 months duration to insolvency and corporations laws to assist with financial distress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. • What happens if a tenant is unable to pay rent because of the COVID-19 pandemic? During the COVID-19 pandemic, the national cabinet on 29 March 2020 issued a 'Statement of Principles' relating to commercial and residential tenancies. Further on 7 April 2020, the national cabinet released a mandatory Code of Conduct setting out 11 leasing principles. The Federal Government's response provides certainty and guidelines to tenants in commercial and retail arrangements and in turn provides direction to State Governments to implement and regulate the area.
